The Great Winter Prep is a campaign designed by the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) to help families get ready for weather perils associated with winter. Families are able to download and print resources that will allow them to make sure that their homes and loved-ones are ready for winter season guests — ice, snow and chill.

Stories abound about long lines and empty shelves at grocery stores and people stranded without a plan at work and on highways when a severe winter weather event approaches a town. Imagine how comforting it would be if you already had all the necessary supplies on hand to weather a storm headed your way. You’d know your house was sound and could stand up to the weather, and you’d know that everyone in your family knew exactly what to do when and if the storm strikes. By making sure you have completed all of the tasks laid out in the Great Winter Weather Prep this could be your winter reality.

Every community has those who could use a little extra help to prepare and recover from winter storms. Our “Snow Angels” are volunteers who have pledged to help a neighbor with the task of shoveling and salting their walk after a storm has passed. Snow Angel volunteers should print the Angel Form on the Be a Snow Angel pledge page and present this to the neighbor they have pledged to help. Be sure to include a phone number so your neighbor can reach you when they need your shoveling help!
